Productivity Software FAQ

Introduction

In this article, we will provide answers to frequently asked questions about productivity software. We will cover various metrics and measurements used in productivity software, such as active time, session time, work time, productive time, unproductive time, and more. We will also explain how these metrics are calculated and what they mean for monitoring employee productivity.

Session Time

Session Time is the total time for which a user has been logged into their Windows or macOS user account, excluding time when the Agent was disconnected. For a Hidden Agent, it includes the time the user is logged into their user account, while for a Revealed Agent, it refers to the time logged into the Revealed Agent interface.

Work Time

Work Time is the duration that an employee is logged into their Windows or macOS user profiles, excluding periods where the desktop was locked. It is calculated by adding the Active Time and Idle Time.

Productive Time

Productive Time represents the time spent on websites and applications that have been classified as productive. This classification is set in the Teramind User Guide, specifically in the CONFIGURE > Productivity Profiles section.

Unproductive Time

Unproductive Time is the total time spent on websites and applications that have been classified as unproductive. Only activities specifically classified as ‘Unproductive’ will count towards this metric.

Productive (no idle) Time

Productive (no idle) Time is similar to Productive Time, but it only measures the time when the user is actively engaged with the websites or applications, such as moving the mouse or typing on the keyboard.

Active Time

Active Time represents the time spent engaging with the keyboard or mouse.

Activity (%)

Activity (%) is the average activity percentage for a selected date range. It is calculated based on the user’s keyboard and mouse activity in 5-minute intervals. A score of 100% indicates consistent typing or mouse activity, while a score of 0% means complete inactivity.

Idle Time

Idle Time represents the absence of activity on the keyboard and mouse. The system starts counting idle time once the idle time threshold, set in the Applications settings page, is reached.

Time Focused / Total Time Focused

Time Focused and Total Time Focused are conditions that can be used in Activity-based Rules with the Applications or Websites category. These conditions detect if the user stayed on a specific application or website for a specified duration without switching to other apps or websites.

Worktime: Wage

Worktime: Wage represents the total wages earned by the user during a specific time frame. The calculation is based on the salary or wage rate designated to the user. To set up the wages or salary, go to the EMPLOYEES menu, select an employee, click the EDIT INFO button, and set the pay rate on the PERSONAL INFO tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why is the Session Time 0 for the current date?
  2. Session Time, as well as other time values, may be calculated with some delay, up to several hours, especially in Cloud hosted deployments.

  3. Why is the Session Time greater than 24 hours for a single day in a selected date range?

  4. An employee may be logged into several monitored computers, and each session is tracked separately. You can add the Computer column to the BI Reports > Productivity report to see the totals per computer and employee.

  5. Why is the Work Time greater than the Session Time?

  6. This can happen when the Teramind Hidden/Stealth Agent is offline for some time. In offline recording mode, the Agent continues recording all activity and Work Time, but not the Session Time.

  7. Why is the Work Time less than the Productive Time for some users?

  8. This can happen if some background apps were running while the user was idle. It might be counted as Productive Time but not as Work Time. Please update the Agent to the latest version to resolve this issue.

  9. Why is the Work Time reported on the Productivity Report different than the Dashboard Widgets?

  10. The Online employees widget in the Dashboard screens shows Work Time only on the current computer the employee is working from. Productivity Reports summarize time on all computers on which the user has been working throughout the day.

  11. How does time spent on sites that are not monitored recorded?

  12. When the “DON’T MONITOR WEB TRAFFIC FOR THESE IPS/WEBSITES” setting is used, the time log is affected accordingly. Please refer to the Teramind User Guide for more information on configuring website monitoring settings.
